Bucket List : Cheese Straws

I decided to make some cheese straws because who doesn't love cheese straws only to figure out if you not making your own puff pastry its such a quick and easy treat , now I know perhaps its cheating not making my own puff pastry and I promise I will do my best to make cheese straws from scratch but I thought let me share this quick and easy recipe with you in case you have a party and need a quick snack that tastes great.

What you need:

  • 1 egg
  • ready made puff pastry
  • finally grated cheese
  • spices of choice I chose sage , cayenne pepper, sea salt , pepper and fresh herbs.
  • mustard
Step1 :
Mix the herbs , seasoning and mustard with the grated cheese then roll or press the grated cheese mixture on the ready made puff pastry.

Step2:
Cut them into desired length , I chose to slice them from one length to the other and then half them as seen below. At this point you need to preheat your oven to about 180

Step 3:
Twist them and then whisk the egg in a bowl , place parchment paper on a tray either lightly oil it or use a non stick spray as I did and place the twisted puff pastry on the tray.

Step 4:
Brush the egg over the puff pastry bake for 15 minutes or until lightly golden .

and ta daaaaa! you have delicious cheese straws.

  3. These look SO good! I bet the addition of mustard adds great flavor. As much as I love to bake, I've always used prepared puff pastry dough from the grocery store... it's so convenient and tastes wonderful!
