Is spam an issue?

For those curious to know if since removing my word verification, have I received lots of spam comments? I am really pleased to let you know I have not *insert happy dance here*. I think I have had 2 spam kind of comments since removing the word verification, kind of meaning I don't know if they were just bloggers who didn't bother to read my post or spammers, you know the ones who when you write I had a bad day my cat died and I am in such emotional pain the comment is "yay love the post, please be sure to visit my blog". So if you feel it might benefit your readers when it comes to commenting (like I did) to remove the word verification, I am glad to announce spam won't be much of a problem.

  1. I took off my word verification about a year ago and have had very few spam issues. I do get those sorts of blogger comments, which are Quite frustrating...because I feel like they're missing the point of blogging, at least in my eyes. But, I've only had 1 or 2 instances of true spam and it wasn't bad at all! Definitely worth not having the word verification in my opinion.

  2. I am so happy that you took the word verification off. Some of those images were close to impossible to read. But happier to know no spam!!
I prefer managing the little spam I get than turning away true comments.

    1. Trust me it annoyed me too, I just thought spam would be of a concern because on my wordpress domain it was, but I'm thrilled that it isn't.

  3. I agree with Claudz...that word verification is an absolute nightmare and sometimes I am on my 10th try until I get it right....LOL!!!! I am not a blogger, but as someone who works online and is on their emails most and part of the day SPAM is a big pain in the butt!!! Great blog post, as I enjoyed reading it...keep it up Meg ;) xxx

  4. I'm delighted! I hope it encourages more people to turn off the word verification. It's the only thing that ever makes me reluctant to leave a comment. I actually groan when I see it pop up because it's always impossible to make out! So yay for no spam!!

    1. That's my sole purpose of the post, to say word verification isn't really needed on blogger:)

  6. I've found blogger to be pretty great about filtering crap. Sometimes I still get email notifications that "anonymous" commented some total bull, but those don't usually show up on my blogger dashboard anyway.

  10. I also removed my word verification but I added in moderation in allowing the comments to be published and thankfully I have only had one sort of spam message too ;)

  11. Blogger is generally really good at filtering spam, I barely had any when I was on Blogger but the minute I swapped to Wordpress I got over 3000 spam comments a day until I found a plugin that stops it now I might get 1 or 2. Never go back to captcha though!
